Hola friends and family,
Today was the first day of classes and the Spanish vacation is now over. I had Spanish in the morning then went back to school for a class at 5:30 which was business ethics. My teacher is a lawyer from LA and knew of other students from Redlands. Her company has an office in Barcelona so she teaches here once a year. Went to class in the morning then came back and took a nap. It is still very hot so I woke up sweating, I was very uncomfortable. But I had a very cool dream that I had an interview at Levis Jeans, but I woke up and was very disappointed. Rode the metro to class, it only takes about twenty min to get downtown Barcelona, after class my roommate and I ate some crackers with cheese and ham. I cant get over how good the ham is here, I could eat it all day. We finished the film "The honor of Prizzi" with a young Jack Nicholson. A mafia love story, it very well written. While we watched the film our Senora cooked dinner. I am always excited to see what she makes us. Gazpacho to start off and it was nothing like I was selling in Seattle, I sold a very chunky, salty and spicy gazpacho. Hers was smooth and very bland compared to the Seattle style. But very good on these hot summer nights. A salad with lentils, ham, mozzarella, olives, olive oil and vinegar. It was delicious! She bought us ice cream but we were so full that would couldn't eat anything else. We watch the news every day during dinner and Carmen (my senora) tries to explain everything that has been going on in the world. She says she is very disappointed about the news of burning the Koran and I told her that many Americans are also upset with the religious intolerance, including me. It is very weird being over here and having her explain with is going on in the United States, I have tried to ask her opinion of some issues but she likes to keep them to herself. I have recently found out she is a history buff and loves watching television shows on native indians from Argentina and all over. Last night I tried watching a show with her but I understood nothing and just sat picking out one word every few min. They talk so fast. She tries to explain but there are some words in english that she doesn't know, so I sit at the dinner table with a dictionary and look up words. We laugh about a lot of stuff because it is so hard to communicate sometimes.
Tomorrow I have three new classes. In the morning Sports and Society, then later in the evening International Marketing, and Leadership in a Cross-cultural World. It is going to be a long but exciting day. I am in a program with about 200 other students and we are not the only program in Barcelona. It is so hard to escape American students in the city! This weekend our program is taking a trip to Costa Brava in the south, can't wait to get out of the city.
Well, all for now.
Adios,
Will
